WWE SmackDown (1/7/16): The Big Move

WWE SmackDown also settled in a new home Thursday night on the USA Network. And what better way to kick off 2016 with a blockbuster main event match between Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens for the Intercontinental Title!

Chaos in Laredo for the IC Title

The Laredo Energy Arena geared up for an explosive match as Dean Ambrose put up his Intercontinental Title on the line against Kevin Owens.

It was an intense bout from the get-go, as these two men have vowed to bring each other down. The action soon spilled to the outside, and stayed there until both Owens and Ambrose were counted out!

But the action didn't stop there! Champ and challenger continued to fight among the crowd and back onto the entrance stage, where Ambrose tackled Owens, sending both of them crashing down through tables!

New Smackdown announcer Mauro Ranallo summed it up best: "The hottest rivalry in WWE continues!"

    Upset Victory

Meanwhile, it's John Cena (insert video meme here) who opened the show to fire up the crowd and hype the move to the USA Network. And you know what was missing, asks Cena? The United States Champion!

He calls out the champ, Alberto del Rio, who then refused to grant Cena a title match. So Cena offered an opponent for him instead: Kalisto!

Del Rio used his size advantage to wear down the Lucha Dragon, while he retaliated with quick and agile offense as Cena looked on from ringside. An armbar attempt by Del Rio was countered with a hurricanrana by Kalisto. The champ's leg was then hooked... 1... 2... 3! Kalisto wins!

"Dirty Play" for the Divas Title

In the night's 2nd title defense, Charlotte faced former Team PCB ally Becky Lynch. With daddy Ric Flair at ringside, Charlotte used lots of tricks in the playbook that would make Ric proud. An assist by Flair, then a distraction allowed Charlotte to roll up Becky for the victory!

    Road to the Rumble

The Miz hosted another edition of MizTv to talk about the monumental Royal Rumble match for the WWE World Title. One by one, superstars like the WWE Tag Champions The New Day, Dolph Ziggler, Neville, and US-Title-Open-Challenge-responder-or-not-uh-oh-his-bad R-Truth came out to interrupt. That led into a brawl, then a huge 8-man tag, playa, with Ziggler, Neville, Goldust and R-Truth picking up the win.

    Quick Results:

    1. Kalisto (w/ John Cena) defeated United States Champion Alberto del Rio via a roll-up in a non-title match

    2. Eight-man Tag Team Match: Dolph Ziggler, Neville, Goldust and R-Truth def. The Miz and WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) when Ziggler pinned Miz

    3. Divas Championship: Charlotte (w/ Ric Flair) def. Becky Lynch via roll-up to retain her title

    4. Intercontinental Championship: Kevin Owens vs. Dean Ambrose went to a double-countout; Ambrose retains his title
