    The NXT Grapevine, January 2016

Good morning, Henrinites! We've got more spoilers for the upcoming episodes of NXT, covering the rest of January as well as the first week of February. How will NXT kick off what promises to be a big 2016 for them? Check it out below!

As usual, we're putting a quick WARNING here: if you don't want to be spoiled, turn back now. Otherwise, read on!

    January 13 Episode:
    * NXT GM William Regal made his return and announced a battle royal to determine the next #1 Contender to the NXT Women's Title. He brings out Sami Zayn, but they're interrupted by Samoa Joe. Baron Corbin comes out as well, leading to a brawl between Zayn and Joe.
    * Tommaso Ciampa def. Danny Burch via submission
    * NXT Tag Team Champions The Mechanics (Dash and Dawson) def. The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor) in a non-title match.
    * "The Drifter" Elias Samson def. Corey Hollis
    * Battle Royal to determine the #1 Contender to the NXT Women's Title: Carmella won after a false finish where Eva Marie looked like she won. Other participants included Alexa Bliss, Peyton Royce, Billie Kay, Liv Morgan, Deonna Purazzo, Emma and Asuka. Bayley came out to congratulate Carmella after the match.

Thoughts: A WWE show with a women's match as its main event? Awesome. Carmella is an interesting choice to be the next #1 contender, as that makes for a face-face matchup with Bayley. Also, it's great to see Sami Zayn come back with a purpose. It's an interesting direction to take him in, and it looks like we'll keep seeing him in NXT for a couple more months.

Bonus: Tommaso Ciampa finally picks up a win in NXT.

    January 20 Episode:
    * Sami Zayn def. Adam Rose via submission
    * Apollo Crews def. Tye Dillinger. After the match, Crews challenged NXT Champion Finn Balor to a non-title match.
    * Baron Corbin def. the debuting Rich Swann. Swann got a great reaction.
    * Carmella and Bayley def. Emma and Alexa Bliss.
    * Samoa Joe def. Johnny Gargano via submission

Thoughts: HOLY SHIT RICH SWANN! It hasn't been a secret that he's signed with NXT, but it's nice to see that he hasn't gone through the WWE name generator. Even more interesting is his debut opponent of choice in Baron "I Hate Indie Guys" Corbin. Corbin got the win here to keep him going strong, but expect great things from Swann.

Meanwhile, Apollo Crews challenging Balor makes for an interesting match, especially considering how their last match ended. Let's hope they're able to top that.

    January 27 Episode:
    * American Alpha (Chad Gable and Jason Jordan) def. Blake and Murphy (w/ Alexa Bliss)
    * Nia Jax (w/ Eva Marie) def. Liv Morgan
    * Alex Riley def. Bull Dempsey
    * "The Drifter" Elias Samson def. John Skyler
    * Triple Threat Match to determine the #1 Contender to the NXT Championship: Samoa Joe and Sami Zayn def. Baron Corbin via submission. Corbin tapped out while Joe locked him in a crossface and Zayn locked him in a sharpshooter. William Regal came out after the match but did not say if Zayn or Joe won.

Thoughts: I'm not sure what to think about American Alpha (why get a tag team name with the same acronym as Alcoholics Anonymous?). That main event should be interesting to see play out on TV, though, as that's a great way to give both Zayn and Joe legitimate claims for a title match.

Oh, hey, is that Alex Riley back?

    February 3 Episode:
    * The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) def. The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley)
    * Carmella def. Emma
    * Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady def. two unknown wrestlers
    * Asuka def. Santana Garrett via submission
    * NXT Champion Finn Balor def. Apollo Crews in a non-title match

Thoughts: I'm not sure how they're going to show 5 matches + the works in just an hour of programming (the previous episode also has 5 matches). They're probably going to cut one of them, I guess. The most interesting thing here should be the Balor-Crews match mentioned earlier, as they're two of the most talented men on the roster. Otherwise, the rest of the matches look like your token Enzo/Cass/Vaudevillains appearances, just so we all know they're still in NXT.

What do you think of these upcoming episodes of NXT? Let us know!
