The Grapevine (1/21/16): The Sign of Aries

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the Grapevine! This is our daily post rounding up all the interesting rumors from the wild, wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

After a pretty slow news day yesterday, the wrestling world exploded last night with rumors of one more big WWE signing:

    • Is Austin Aries finally headed to the WWE? The former TNA World Heavyweight Champion, who was apparently backstage at NXT last year, originally dispelled rumors of him headed to the WWE by showing back up at TNA for its recently-concluded World Title Series. However, he was not present at the latest Impact Wrestling tapings, and now he was spotted at Pittsburgh this week where it's believed he was taking his pre-signing medicals. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: What an amazing coup for WWE—NXT, specifically. The once-developmental territory is slowly turning into what TNA could've been with the budget that it had, and what ROH could've been if they had enough money back in their prime. We're excited to see where this goes, and how NXT is going to flourish this year.

    • And speaking of medicals at Pittsburgh, Daniel Bryan did not go see Dr. Joseph Maroon, as was previously speculated on. He was really just there for the World of Wheels auto convention, and he was in and out of Pittsburgh. (Source: Dave Meltzer)

We say: Oh, well. We continue to wait.

    • WWE is thinking about doing a Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman match as early as this year's WrestleMania. While the plans aren't final, there was a renewed internal push to go in that direction, and the ending of this week's RAW in which the Wyatt Family destroy Brock could be a sign that they're headed that way. This would be just new speculation added to a line of possible Lesnar opponents at 'Mania, which include the Rock and Kevin Owens. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: There's always a modicum of possibility that this match-up could be great, but we all believe that Strowman is far from ready for that spot right now. There's no need to do a Beast vs. Beast match when Lesnar/Owens or even Lesnar/Rock would do.
