The Grapevine (1/20/16): The Siege of New Japan, Day 16

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the Grapevine! This is our daily post rounding up all the interesting rumors from the wild, wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

We have some new updates on the NJPW stars coming over:

    • Although AJ Styles could likely make it to the Royal Rumble match on Sunday, the rest of Bullet Club as well as Shinsuke Nakamura most likely will not. Styles is working his last ROH date this Saturday, which could mean he can theoretically show up on Sunday, but it's unknown whether he's already done the required medicals. Gallows has already come in and done his medicals, but is expected to be brought in with Anderson to NXT as a team, so it might not make sense for him to have a spot at the Rumble only to show up on NXT moving forward. Anderson and Nakamura are also still contracted to NJPW until February 1. Nakamura is still set to visit the Performance Center and get his medical next month.

WWE has made it clear that they didn't want the four to work for ROH moving forward, but they did not tell them to pull out of the dates they'd already booked for the company. On a related note, TNA had also apparently tried to get Styles back, but they were unable to reach an agreement. (Source: PWInsider, WON)

We say: This is looking real good. Even though Gallows could theoretically have a surprise spot in the match as Luke, we're okay with waiting, as these things take time if they're going to be really great. If they're not making the Rumble, we just hope that Nakamura and Styles are at least going to figure into the plans at WrestleMania.

    • Tough Enough winner Josh Bredl, also known in the WWE as Bronson Matthews, was the talk of the town yesterday after getting into a Twitter beef with Kevin Owens. Bredl, who had called the Social Outcasts "Social Jobbers" in a tweet that has since been deleted, earned the ire of a handful of WWE superstars, including the Outcasts themselves. Apparently, the tweet drew so much heat for Bredl—who is only in the WWE because he won a contest—due to the sheer amount of disrespect he showed to talents who earned their place on the card, regardless of how low it was. We say: A lot of people these days are really forgetting the art of keeping your head down and shutting up when they're new in the room.

    • In what we hope could be positive news, Daniel Bryan is headed to see the WWE doctor this week. Bryan will be going to Pittsburgh to meet with WWE Wellness head Dr. Joseph Maroon, possibly to try and get cleared for the ring again. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: *Crossing fingers for a chance to YES*

    • Could we be getting Stephen Amell vs. Stardust II? WWE has been teasing a confrontation between the two rivals at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in New York this weekend. It turns out that they're planning to film footage of the confrontation, possibly to finally set up a future singles match between the two. (Source: PWInsider)
