The Grapevine (5/2/22): More Regular NXT Releases Expected, Stardom Interested In Joint AEW Show, Nikkita Lyons

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    More regular NXT releases expected

After last Friday's NXT releases, there are apparently more regular cuts coming as developmental talent are evaluated in 90-day intervals. Talent who don't show any regular progress will apparently be released, and WWE will continue to hire more talent as they cut. (Source: Dave Meltzer/Sunday Night's Main Event)

We say: If WWE wasn't already obvious as a heartless corporate sports entertainment machine yet, then this should solidify it. 90 days isn't really a sufficient enough period of time for wrestlers to become wrestlers—that's just enough time for them to learn the basics of pro wrestling. Legitimate sports teams don't even take just three months to develop talent. If you're a pro wrestler looking to make it to WWE, it doesn't seem like a good idea to go through their developmental.

Stardom interested to do joint show with AEW

Following the announcement of the Forbidden Door PPV event with AEW and NJPW, Stardom is now reportedly interested in doing a similar show with AEW's female talent. Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa are apparently two names they would want for their show at Sumo Hall at the end of the year. (Source: Dave Meltzer/Sunday Night's Main Event)

We say: Stardom would definitely benefit more from this exchange than AEW would, but it certainly wouldn't hurt both companies to strengthen ties. It's for the hardcore fans, after all.

    WWE high on Nikkita Lyons

WWE management apparently sees a lot of potential in NXT rookie Nikkita Lyons. Lyons has gotten really over with the fans and the company is taking advantage of it, especially putting her in a matchup with Natalya, who is currently in NXT to work with younger talent. We say: You don't get that kind of over every day, so it's good for WWE to capitalize on that buzz. It's a good thing that Nikkita does have skill and potential.
