Finisher Friday (4/8/22): Bowens Has Arrived

Welcome to another edition of #FinisherFriday! This is Wreddit_Regal bringing you a short review of a finisher that's deceptively simple and flashy.

To restrict Anthony Bowens to just being a rapper's hypeman is pure blasphemy. This dude is a battle-hardened veteran, making his name known on promotions like House of Glory, Beyond Wrestling, Impact and Global Force, IWF, and WrestlePro, capturing gold in the last two promotions mentioned before landing on AEW soil.

Bowens' current moveset is a creative mix of strikes and innovative slams/suplexes. Aside from his brutal elbows and kicks, he has incorporated some unique and flashy moves into his arsenal...

...including his finisher, a whatchamacall-it move named The End Complete:

...huh? How did he do that again?

Let's do a short breakdown of the move:

    1. Bowens starts in the typical side slam position
    2. Bowens lifts the opponent up
    3. At the highest point of elevation, Bowens uses his left arm to "hug" the opponent (think of the "Bayley-to-belly suplex"), while also turning 180 degrees to the right. This results in the opponent changing their orientation mid-air
    4. The move ends with Bowens seated on the mat, and the opponent lying down face-up

You could also think of it as a combination of Matt Hardy's Side Effect, and Bayley's Bayley-to-Belly, if it makes things easier to process:

Using my Regal Rating, I would give this move a:

9/10 for aesthetics. I like it very much! It's clean, quick, and done without long setups. Although it doesn't have the oomph factor that you would normally expect in a finisher, the move's mechanics make up for it by confusing the casual fan (or is it just me), giving them thoughts like "How can a simple move look so complicated?"

8/10 for damage. As said earlier, the visual impact isn't there, mainly because Bowens spends more energy in turning the opponent around than in slamming them onto the mat.

And that's it chaps, my short review of Anthony Bowens' The End Complete! Do you think The Acclaimed can rise to the top of the AEW tag team division this year? Let us know in the comment section below!
