Finisher Friday (3/25/22): You Don't Want This Guy To Go Apeshit On You

Welcome to another edition of #FinisherFriday! This is Wreddit_Regal bringing you a short review of a finisher that might give you some delightful shit memories from the past.

On last week's writeup we talked about Tama Tonga and his trinity of finishers. This week we will feature the other half of GoD - Tanga Loa.

Before landing a spot on Japanese soil, Tanga Loa built his resumé by competing on multiple promotions across the US such as FCW, Impact, and most notably on WWE's main roster—as Hunico's "brotha from the hood," Camacho.

After his introduction as a Bullet Club member in 2016, he and his adoptive brother Tama Tonga wasted no time. They formed a team known as Guerrillas of Destiny, which would prove to be the winningest duo in NJPW's tag team division, racking a total of seven reigns as IWGP Tag Team Champions together.

While Tama opts to bring some smoothness to his moves, Tanga Loa chooses to have none of that. His moveset embodies the explosiveness and damage that is unique to their Tongan bloodline:

His finisher is a nifty over-the-shoulder piledriver which he calls Apeshit:

Some seasoned WWE fans may recognize this to be a rare gem from Rikishi's weaponry, the Rikishi Driver:

Using my Regal Rating, I would give this move a:

9/10 for aesthetics. It may not look as crisp as Rikishi's version, but then again, Tanga Loa probably doesn't care for any of this visual stuff. He just happened to find a finisher that's easy to set up and delivers substantial damage.

9/10 for damage. Draping the opponent's body over your shoulder means that the opponent's head may not receive full impact from the piledriver (and also downward momentum coming from the opponent's own body). Nevertheless, a head being driven to the mat—whether fully done or not—is leagues worse than any body drop in terms of damage.

And that's it chaps, my short review of Tanga Loa's Apeshit! Are you excited for GoD laying waste to Jay White and the rest of the Bullet Club? Let us know in the comment section below!
