The Grapevine (2/4/22): More Details On Shane McMahon's Release, Goldberg Set To Return, More On Low WWE Morale

    Shane McMahon

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

More details on Shane McMahon's release

Shane McMahon was "quietly released" from WWE over the past few days due to the reported issues surrounding his production of the men's Royal Rumble match, as well as rumored attitude issues involving his reaction to Vince McMahon's plans for him. There were apparently pushes for him to wrestle Austin Theory or Seth Rollins at WrestleMania, and he felt that his ideas were being shut down. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: What a strange, bizarre mess that kicks off the Road to WrestleMania season in a ridiculous way. The good thing is that there's still time to salvage it with one or two more events before the big show itself, and they've already started doing so with the booking for Elimination Chamber.

Goldberg set to wrestle Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber

Goldberg is set to wrestle the final match of his current contract against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber. They were originally set to wrestle for the title at WrestleMania 36 back in 2020, but Reigns pulled out due to health concerns. (Source: Fightful Select)

We say: It's Saudi, and we didn't even know Goldberg still had one more match in his contract. Might as well get it out of their system.

More updates on low backstage morale in WWE

In a follow-up to the previous update of low backstage morale in WWE, many people are apparently not happy with the company's current direction and feel they have no voice in the way things are being run. They feel they are not being heard and any attempts to speak with Vince McMahon are being ignored. (Source: Fightful Select)

We say: At this point, if you're a main roster wrestler and you're not complaining about the way the main roster is run, you're probably just one of the people benefitting from the biggest pushes. It's time for the biggest names and voices to start speaking up and not just selfishly sitting pretty in their high spots, because if something big happens it will bite all of them in the ass. We can't believe there's not even enough self-awareness to realize this.
