Play Henry: Be The Authority in WWE 2K22's MyGM Mode

WWE 2K22's latest Ringside Report has just provided the details for the long-awaited return of General Manager mode—or now officially known as MyGM. We're here to break down some of the features of the returning mode as we await the game's release on March 11, 2022. To quote a certain former RAW General Manager's theme music, "[it's] back and [it's] better than ever." The almost 18-minute MyGM deep dive video has given hope to us fans clamoring for a new WWE 2K videogame.

    Best For Business

The General Manager mode of the old days had us taking control of RAW or SmackDown in the quest for brand supremacy. This year, not only do we get to select our own brand (including NXT and NXT UK), but we'll also be able to choose our own avatars. While names like Sonya Deville, Adam Pearce, Shane McMahon, and Stephanie McMahon were already implied before, one of the biggest surprises was the ability to use your custom Superstar. I know that I'll be making Smark Henry GMs for us here at the SH Office so we can do "Battle of the Brands."

However, the choice of avatar isn't strictly a visual effect. You'll also get a unique power card which you can then use during your playthrough to achieve different effects. As an example, Pearce has the "Instigator" card which increases the levels of all active rivalries by one. It'll be interesting how these special effects shift the balance during the GM face-offs.

    And The Number One Pick...

The WWE draft has been a huge part of MyGM and it continues to be—as it will be the basis of your initial roster. You'll be able to draft a minimum of eight Superstars to fill your brand—with additional Superstars being optional in relation to your remaining budget. Speaking of budget, you'll begin the year with $2,750,000 so it's up to you how to use your money—whether it be for Superstars or for other features.

The 2K sports team may have mimicked the presentation of drafts from its other sports games. The new WWE draft screen gives a ton of new details and options that will allow us couch GMs to see stats, classes, roles, and even recommended Superstars to draft (if we're unsure of our picks).

    I Respect You, Booker Man

MyGM does seem to involve a lot of menus, so let's talk about some of the things from the show booking part of the mode. There are a few self-explanatory tabs like "Book Show" and "Ratings," however, tabs like "Show Logistics" and "Power Cards."

The biggest thing you should know about the "Book Show" tab is that special match types cost money. You'll need to take that into account when starting your brand. You don't want to end up hiring 8 main eventers, only for them to be constantly be booked in basic singles matches.

Next is the "Show Logistics" which, again, will see you squeezing your budget to be able to produce the show you need. Things like the arena, crew, special effects, and advertisement choices have different effects on your show, so you may need to spend a little to up the quality of your brand's upcoming event.

The "Power Cards" tab is an interesting one. You'll be able to spend your budget on instant boosts which grant game-altering bonuses. Is your main eventer injured? Maybe you'd like to use an "Injury Rehab" card so that they can come back earlier. I think this is one of those things which will help shift the tides during your GM rivalry.

This Message Is Brought To You By...

During the game, you'll also be able to receive inputs from your roster. Have you been putting Rey Mysterio in weekly Hell in a Cell matches? You just might get a text from Rey Rey himself telling you about his low morale or health state. Notifications like these are useful so as to not put your roster into a compromising position.

    Do You Want Total Control?

Not only do you get to pick your GM to book shows, you'll also be able to take part as an on-screen character. Do you want to re-enact the Montreal Screwjob? Maybe you want to just interfere? You can turn your character into the evil authority figure you've always dreamed of.

But wait, not only do you get on-screen control and booking powers, but you'll also be able to direct your camera cuts a la Kevin Dunn. Want that bird's eye view from above the briefcase? That's now possible as you can change the cameras at will during spectator mode. One thing that wasn't discussed was if you could save a replay or a cut of your "directed" match for future viewing. I'm sure we armchair GMs would love to start our own weekly teleseryes.

You'll also be getting a post-match breakdown after every match so that you'll immerse yourself even deeper. Gone are the days when only a winner or loser tag is shown. You'll get a wrestling journalist-style recap of how the match went down. It's these small things that really help build the mode to be a thing of beauty.

Finally, the post-show report also gives you a detailed recap of the budget, ratings, and everything that went down, including posting Twitter-like comments from the fans. They seem to be easy to decipher so you'll at least be able to use those to gauge your fan interest.

    The End of Days

To wrap up, we're pretty hyped for this release, especially with all these new details. Although admittedly, I need to see more of the roster so I can start crafting my excel sheets of plans. Lots of rumored roster members have been floating around, and I myself would love to see them be confirmed. They'll serve as very important key players in my MyGM journey so until then, we can't wait for the next Ringside Report from 2K Sports.

    Other Details

    • We can add GUNTHER (or maybe he's still WALTER here), Tyler Bate, Dexter Lumis, Joaquin Wilde, and Nia Jax to the list of confirmed people as they were shown during portions of the video.
    • Triple H seems to be calling the shots in the game as he's the Commissioner. I'm guessing Mr. McMahon takes a backseat in this mode. I do wonder what will happen if you draft Triple H to your roster.
    • Speaking of drafts, I wonder if you can draft Sonya Deville (or your Create-a-Superstar) as part of your roster even if the avatar is being used.
    • The synergy bonuses when drafting seems like a good concept for checking complementary match-ups.
    • It is not yet confirmed whether Silence (an in-game character used during the MyGM video) is a custom Superstar or a random free agent. If this is indeed a random free agent, I do hope there are a lot of interesting randoms prepared so we can have interesting and diverse rosters that aren't just 100 Create-A-Superstar slots.
    • The new "Fix Match" power card may be useful for helping shape your narrative story.
    • Commissioner Goals are a great addition so that we as GMs need to work under some sort of side goals.
    • There was no mention of multiplayer for this mode so that's one detail that's unconfirmed.
