The Grapevine (9/24/21): AEW To Introduce New Championship, Gran Metalik Asks For Release

    Britt Baker and Ruby Soho

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    AEW reportedly launching new championship

AEW is rumored to be launching a new championship, reportedly called the TBS Championship, soon. The new title is apparently a secondary women's championship and is named after TBS, the network that Dynamite will be moving to in January 2022. (Source: Andrew Zarian)

We say: We're not sure if a secondary championship is what AEW's women's division needs right now. In fact, it would be much better served by a women's tag team championship with the depth it currently has.

    Gran Metalik requests for release

Lucha House Party member Gran Metalik has reportedly asked for his release from WWE. The Mexican luchador is reportedly frustrated with the lack of opportunities given to him and Lince Dorado. His current contract expires in 2023. (Source: Mas Lucha)

We say: Can't blame him for feeling this way as the very talented Lucha House Party hasn't been used well on the RAW brand. With the cruiserweight division being relegated to NXT and not panning out to be the big attraction it was meant to be back in 2016, there's not much space for them on the main roster.
