The Grapevine (9/15/21): How Much Vince McMahon Was Involved In NXT 2.0, Von Wagner Seen As A Future Main-Eventer

    Von Wagner and Pete Dunne

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Vince McMahon's involvement in NXT 2.0

Vince McMahon reportedly oversaw the premiere of NXT 2.0 today, but it is still unclear if he will be as involved with the show every week. According to previously reported rumors, McMahon is set to oversee the "big picture" of the brand, but the same team will be handling the day-to-day and week-to-week affairs. The renewed focus on younger Performance Center talent is a clear reflection of McMahon's vision for the developmental brand. (Source: Ringside News)

We say: All things considered, it was exactly as we predicted: it's a good mix of the young talent and veterans leading them to become future stars. We just hope that he doesn't get too involved with the writing of the show as NXT tended to display good narrative habits compared to the main roster. Let him pick who gets pushes and let the creative team, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels execute.

Von Wagner seen as a future main eventer

NXT 2.0 rookie Von Wagner, who made his TV debut on this week's episode, is reportedly being seen as a future WrestleMania main eventer. The son of former WWE wrestler Wayne Bloom, also known as Beau Beverly of the Beverly Brothers, is apparently drawing comparisons to a young Edge, and McMahon reportedly thinks he has what it takes as a future WrestleMania main eventer. We say: This definitely explains why he got slotted in the fatal four-way at Kyle O'Reilly's expense. Wagner certainly carried himself well in the fatal four-way match, but the true test is in a sustained singles run. He's definitely got the looks and a solid foundation, and it's up to him to execute and the NXT creative team to book him well.
