The Grapevine (7/28/21): Karrion Kross Originally Scheduled To Lose, Keith Lee Frustrated Over Booking, Young Bucks Update

    Karrion Kross on WWE RAW

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Karrion Kross originally planned to lose again

NXT Champion Karrion Kross was originally scheduled to lose his second match on RAW before Jeff Hardy tested positive for COVID-19. It's being said that "even more" people backstage were baffled and frustrated at this plan, and it was unclear what the direction would be after that. Instead, Kross won a match against Keith Lee on the episode. (Source: Fightful Select)

We say: This had better not be Vince being petty, because it's a terrible look. One could also say that they could make up for it later, but it's better to stop bad decisions like this instead of course-correcting at a later time.

Keith Lee apparently frustrated over booking

Keith Lee sent out a few tweets that he quickly deleted, apparently venting frustration over how he was booked over the last two episodes of RAW. Last week, Lee answered an open challenge by Bobby Lashley that led to Goldberg challenging Lashley for the WWE Championship. This week, Lee lost cleanly to Karrion Kross.

We say: The public venting is not a good look, but it does seem like Lee's main roster run is not heading the way anyone, including Triple H, wanted it to. We wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being released in a future round of spring cleaning, as it's somewhat clear Vince McMahon doesn't see him as special.

Why the Young Bucks were not on Dynamite last week

The Young Bucks did not appear on Dynamite last week due to a family issue Matt Jackson had. Nick Jackson was actually backstage but the decision was made to not use only one of them. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: We don't think it would have been weird to fans for only Nick to show up, but now you know.
