The Grapevine (7/23/21): Daniel Bryan Reportedly Signs With AEW, CM Punk Doesn't Deny Rumors, The Rock Planned For Survivor Series, WWE-Braun Strowman

    Daniel Bryan

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Daniel Bryan reportedly signs with AEW

Reports are coming out of Daniel Bryan reportedly already signing a contract with AEW. While this is still highly unconfirmed, the belief is that he will be debuting at the September 22 AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam show at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City. If the news is true, then AEW's relationship with NJPW may be the key factor in Bryan's signing with the company. (Source: Bodyslam.net, Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: All eyes will be on AEW in two months, as both Bryan and CM Punk are rumored to be debuting on September shows. However, it's really, really worth noting that many top outlets—AKA the ones we trust most—have gone on to say that these reports are still unconfirmed, so take this with the whole shaker of salt for now. (You're free to be excited about those AEW shows, though.)

CM Punk doesn't deny AEW signing rumors

On a related note, CM Punk did not deny any rumors that he was signed with AEW. He posted an Instagram story of the song "Sirius" by the Alan Parsons Project, which is known as the Chicago Bulls' theme song—a reference to AEW All Out happening in Chicago on September 5. This has also yet to be confirmed by any source. (Source: WrestlingNews.co)

We say: You'll have to take this one with an extra shaker of salt, because it's also entirely possible that CM Punk is just messing with people for the hell of it. It's far more likely that Bryan is set for AEW considering his in-ring career isn't over yet.

The Rock set for Survivor Series

There are plans for the Rock to wrestle on this year's Survivor Series, which is also the 25th anniversary of his WWE debut. The current location for the show is the Barclays Center in New York City, where Rock made his debut in Madison Square Garden. The current plan is reportedly a tag team match that will apparently kick off his storyline with cousin Roman Reigns, culminating at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas next year. (Source: Andrew Zarian)

We say: Sounds good, especially if they're frontloading the Big Four in the wake of crowds coming back. Let's hope nothing happens to derail their current momentum.

WWE reportedly interested in bringing back Braun Strowman

WWE is apparently interested in bringing Braun Strowman back after releasing him a couple of months ago. This is in the wake of relatively high-profile jumps from WWE to AEW. Current AEW producer Mark Henry has also stated that he wants Strowman in the company. (Source: WON)

We say: If Braun wants a lot of money on his deal, they're probably not going to get him back unless they play a lot of ball with him. It also depends on how much Tony Khan would want someone like Braun, who might also get lost in the deepening AEW shuffle should he sign with them.
