Finisher Friday (7/9/21): A Sexy Finisher For A Sexy Man

Welcome to another edition of #FinisherFriday! This is Wreddit_Regal bringing you a short highlight of one of my absolute favorite wrestlers in this year's batch of NXT recruits.

Playboys have been an essential part of wrestling since the early days, and the rich, cocky characters are still being used to this day. Glorious costumes, expensive cars and fancy haircuts have been the norm for some of the best looking men in professional wrestling, while others brag about their riches with charisma and charm. From Ric Flair to Angel Garza, there is no doubt that the WWE has embraced this classic trope, but they have officially taken this up a notch when they signed the sexiest man in all of puroresu (sorry Tanahashi fans, it's not him).

Known by the crowds for his bright smile and unwavering determination to wearing his jacket at all times, Ikemen Jiro's domination in the Wrestle-1 promotion was undeniable. During his time there, he became a one time Wrestle-1 Result Champion, one-time Wrestle-1 Tag Team Champion and a four-time UWA World Trios Champion and the winner of the 2017 Wrestle-1 Grand Prix and 2015 Road to Keiji Mutoh Tournament. After proving his worth, he would take his jacket with him and move to AJPW and DDT as a freelancer, grabbing the Gaora TV Championship and DDT Extreme Division Championship in the process. He would declare his intentions to move to the United States and join WWE in 2019, and did so a year later.

It's a shame Ikemen's WWE debut began in the pandemic era because his pre-COVID entrances were bloody glorious and engaging. The crowd back then gobbled up this 5'11" Japanese wrestler taking three or five minutes going into the bleachers, shaking hands and flashing his body for everyone in the process, shown in this video for example:

Despite his persona being a happy-go-lucky borderline narcissist humbug, Ikemen actually has the skills to back up his showboating. He's an all-rounder in offense, able to do strikes, spins, slams, and submissions like it's a walk in the park:

His favored finisher, called the Ikemen Slash, was a superkick to a kneeling opponent in his Japan days:

But he decided to make it a setup move to a running Busaiku knee from the corner upon moving to WWE territory:

It's a pretty straightforward move, so there's no breakdown to be done. Instead, I'll go directly to my Regal Rating, to which I would give it a:

8/10 for aesthetics. He's a flashy dude by nature, and a move like this adds to his rep. His thigh looks like a scythe prepared to lop off an opponent's head from their body.

8/10 for damage. Unlike kick finishers that deals moderate damage because the attacker only extends their legs and relies entirely on their momentum (Claymore/Brogue Kick/Helluva Kick), the Ikemen Slash does more damage because of the thigh's slashing motion (think of a slashing elbow strike).

And that's it chaps, my short highlight of the Ikemen Slash! Do you think Ikemen Jiro has a good chance of winning this year's NXT Breakout Tournament? Let us know in the comment section below!
