The Grapevine (6/9/21): Lio Rush Announces Retirement, News On Elias and Jaxson Ryker's Direction

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    Lio Rush retires from wrestling

Following a tear in his acromioclavicular joint on his shoulder at his appearance at Double or Nothing last week, former WWE star Lio Rush has announced his retirement from wrestling. Rush says that the injury has forced him to reflect on what's important in his life. He will still make his final contractual obligations to NJPW, where he is also contracted, once his shoulder heals.

We say: While it's easy to say that he'll likely walk back his retirement once he's all better and doing well, that'll be a long time away. Rest easy, Lio, and get well soon.

News on Elias and Jaxson Ryker's directions

After their split, the current plans for Elias and Jaxson Ryker are that Ryker will be pushed as a face against Elias. Elias originally walked out on Ryker in a tag team match against AJ Styles and Omos on the May 31 episode of RAW. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: We'd like to know in which universe the WWE thinks a lot of people would actually cheer for Jaxson Ryker as a face. Yes, there is still the MAGA portion of the crowd, but far more people don't actually care about him enough. Yet another bad idea from the WWE.
