The Grapevine (3/3/21): NXT Moving To Tuesdays, Wes Lee Legitimately Injured

Finn Balor and Adam Cole on WWE NXT

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    NXT reportedly moving to Tuesdays

New rumors are claiming that WWE is set to move NXT to Tuesday nights on USA Network reportedly on April 13. This had been speculated after the NBC Sports Network's shutdown happening later this year, forcing NHL games to be moved to Wednesday nights. AEW Dynamite had been steadily beating NXT in the ratings since the latter's move to the USA Network back in September 2019. (Source: Mat Men Podcast)

We say: This is from the unlikeliest of sources, but many outlets are treating this info as good as done due to the prior speculation surrounding NXT and the USA Network. This would mean that the Wednesday Night Wars are over with a victory for AEW, but really, this would also just mean that fans can finally watch both shows without having to choose—meaning ratings for both should go higher. NXT has long suffered for simply being part of the WWE umbrella despite being more than a solid wrestling show, and it wouldn't be far-fetched that there is a subset of AEW fans who would also like to watch it undistracted. Let's fucking go.

    Wes Lee injured

Wes Lee of MSK is legitimately injured with a real hand injury. Lee had reportedly suffered it at Takeover: Vengeance Day in the match against Grizzled Young Veterans. The attack angle from last week's episode of NXT was done to write the team off, as NXT Tag Team Championship match against Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan has been removed from this week's episode. It is not clear yet if they will still keep this match or give the shot to another team. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: That's terrible news, and it's a shame that it happened to a team in the middle of a huge push. Get better soon, Wes.
