The Grapevine (2/19/21): Andrade Teasing NXT Return, Konnan Health Update, Kross/Escobar Note

Andrade and Zelina Vega on WWE NXT

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Could Andrade be headed back to NXT?

Speculation is abound that former NXT and United States Champion Andrade may be headed back to NXT after he tweeted a picture of him with the NXT Championship. There are no other details or any backstage news accompanying this tweet. (Source: Wrestling Inc.)

We say: It's your standard speculation after a mysterious tweet, and while we don't blame Wrestling Inc. for jumping on it, it could very well be nothing. But if it is something, at least we brought it up. As it stands, however, the NXT roster is quite stacked especially with new signings, so we're not entirely sure how Andrade would fit in—though Lord knows he needs to be back there.

Konnan dealing with COVID-19 and kidney issue

Mexican legend Konnan has been hospitalized with COVID-19 and an issue with his kidneys. While his life was said to be "in danger," he is reportedly doing better now. (Source: Lucha Libre Online)

We say: That's good to hear. Hoping Konnan has a quick recovery.

Reason why Kross vs. Escobar got delayed

The match between Karrion Kross and Santos Escobar was pulled from this week's NXT due to an unspecified "medical issue." This issue is apparently legitimate enough to cancel the match this week, but it is still on for next week's episode. Sources have also said that the feud between the two was something "done out of necessity" and not really planned beforehand. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: Well, this is certainly strange—it seemed like the delay was just to build up hype for the match, but that's apparently not the case. Hope that it's not too severe a medical issue, but if the match is still on next week then it's apparently not that bad. As for the part about the feud being done out of necessity, that's really vague, but how we understand it is that Escobar inadvertently mentioned Kross in that promo a few weeks ago and now they have to make them feud to protect Kross.
