The Grapevine (12/16/20): RAW Draws All-Time Low Viewership, Officials Not Happy, Lana Written Off TV, Ethan Page

AJ Styles and Drew McIntyre on WWE RAW

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

TLC go-home episode of RAW draws record-low rating, WWE management not happy

Some changes may be coming to RAW soon. Numbers are in and this Monday's go-home episode of RAW drew an all-time low of 1.527 million viewers, 12% down from last week. Management is reportedly "not happy" about this, and officials are expecting "reactionary decisions" to be made soon. On a related note, reports are also saying that the episode was apparently written specifically to please Vince McMahon. (Source: @Wrestlevotes, PWInsider, Wrestling Inc)

We say: It's clear that changes do need to be made, but they need to be listening to the right people. If changes are still going to come from Vince McMahon, then that's not going to do much—it's obvious that what he wants is what's dragging this stuff down. What people really want is the novelty of diversity, which you never really get when you watch at least two episodes of RAW in a row. It really mostly does feel like the same stuff every week because of their internal philosophy of milking something that's good at first until the returns are fully diminished. Start with actually maximizing your whole roster in the three hours RAW is on.

Lana written off TV, possible Charlotte Flair return

Lana has been written off RAW with the beatdown she received at the hands of WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax. She will be out for three to four weeks, although no reason for the time off was stated. Some rumors are saying that Charlotte Flair will make her return to RAW as Asuka's partner for the championship match at TLC, although this is far from confirmed. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Definitely wouldn't be opposed to a Charlotte Flair comeback in this spot, as taking someone from another tag team is messy.

Ethan Page in talks with top promotions

Impact Wrestling star Ethan Page has reportedly already had talks with WWE, AEW, and MLW. Page's deal with Impact is set to expire on December 31, and it's believed that he will not be re-signing with the company. (Source: Wrestling Inc)

We say: With stacked rosters everywhere, it may be the best idea to stay put, but we're not ones to tell a man how to make his money (so long as it's above-board). Best of luck to wherever the winds take him.
