NXT in the UK (11/19/20): And Still Your Women's Champion

Kay Lee Ray, Jinny, and Piper Niven on WWE NXT UK

This week on NXT UK, the Heritage Cup Tournament is paused to milk the moment a little more (the finals will be coming back next week, but they only devoted a single video package to it). The big main event is the Falls Count Anywhere match between Kay Lee Ray and Piper Niven... and it could have been bigger.

    Should've pulled the trigger

So as mentioned, NXT UK Women's Champion Kay Lee Ray defended the title against perennial nemesis Piper Niven in a Falls Count Anywhere match. Jinny interfered twice—she got beaten back the first time, then eventually cost Niven the match in the end.

Honestly, I thought it should've been the time to put the title on Niven. While their title match from two months ago was miles better than this (despite the awkward booking of KLR) Niven looked really good and dominant. With not much changing in NXT UK, a new women's champion would've been perfect now.

Now that we know for sure that it's going to be Niven vs. Jinny moving forward, I would've preferred that feud to be for the title. Jinny had always been presented as someone who could be a big figure in the division, but they've never pulled the trigger on that for one reason or another. Had Niven won tonight, they could've elevated two women in one blow.

I'm not sure what else they could do with KLR at this point, as there aren't any big female stars left in the division after Piper. Rhea Ripley and Toni Storm have long been gone from the show. The only possibility I see left is none other than Meiko Satomura, who had been announced as a coach coming to the UK Performance Center earlier this year. Let's hope this is finally it.

Meanwhile, there's not much else to report from this week's episode. Minor storylines were advanced, while a nicely-done video package recapped the United Kingdom Championship match between WALTER and Dragunov, meaning one of them is likely to make an appearance soon. I would've preferred interview segments with A-Kid and Trent Seven, the finalists for the NXT UK Heritage Cup tournament, instead of the Saxon Huxley and Levi Muir match.
