The Grapevine (9/4/20): News On The Iiconics Breakup, NXT's Schedule, WWE Live Events

The Iiconics break up on WWE RAW

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Why were the Iiconics split up?

The Iiconics were split up because Peyton Royce is reportedly in line for a singles push. Billie Kay will not be leaving the company, nor is she being punished—management simply wants to try something different for Royce. Kay may be headed to SmackDown while Royce remains on RAW. We say: While we're big fans of Peyton Royce here in the Smark Henry offices, we don't think the time was right just yet, even though the Iiconics have been on RAW and SmackDown for over a year. That said, the women's divisions have been shallow as of late, necessitating more contenders for the singles titles, so also can't say we don't understand.

NXT may be moved to a different night

NXT is currently being considered for a schedule change. NXT was moved to Wednesday nights on the USA Network to go up against Dynamite, in an attempt to crush the competition. They apparently understood that NXT would draw more people if it did not go up against Dynamite on Wednesday nights. After AEW and TNT reached a three-year TV deal, WWE and USA realized their plan to defeat AEW did not work.

However, even though NXT is losing in the ratings to Dynamite, WWE management is still not in a rush to make a decision regarding the show's schedule. It would probably be revisited should the show continue to lose viewers. (Source: @Wrestlevotes on Twitter, Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: At this point, it may very well be a good idea. NXT on Tuesdays seems to be much better for the brand, taking a little pressure off fans—especially those who aren't picking sides in this war—from having to choose which show they have to watch on Wednesday night.

WWE to cut down on live events even after COVID-19

WWE is considering cutting down the number of live events in a year, even after COVID-19 passes. Wrestlers have been vocal about the demanding touring schedule, and if they cut down on the events it will likely affect house show dates around the world. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: These guys deserve it. Give them their work-life balance.
