The Grapevine (9/11/20): Update on Miro's AEW Deal, WWE Layoffs Incoming

    Miro in AEW Dynamite

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Miro has an official deal with AEW

Miro is now under contract with AEW. The two parties have apparently been in talks for a while, and the deal is "long-term" with an option pending. The contract apparently allows Miro to wrestle for NJPW and other indies should he choose to, but not for any other American TV shows—meaning NJPW USA shows are off the table. We say: We're not entirely sure, but this seems to be how Jon Moxley is able to wrestle for NJPW as well. We hope he takes NJPW dates, because some of us here in the Smark Henry offices have been wanting to see him work that puroresu style.

WWE prepares for another round of layoffs

WWE is readying another batch of employee cuts today. Some releases were already made over the past few days, including WWE Hall of Famer and talent scout Gerald Brisco, Mike Rotunda, and producer Sarah Stock. These releases are apparently employees who had been furloughed back in April, but haven't been brought back to work yet. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Here we are again, with the world's biggest and richest wrestling company trying to cut down on people they can definitely afford while the pandemic goes on. It's not a good look at all, especially after the controversial stance on third-party engagement. The worst part is that it's probably not going to faze Vince McMahon at all.
