We’re inching closer towards the release of WWE 2K Battlegrounds on September 18, so what better time to talk about the various game modes in this arcade-style brawler than now? If this smark’s written words aren’t enough to convince you that this game looks like a fun time, maybe Paul Heyman's will?
Okay, now that Paul Heyman is done talking about those tantalizing game modes, how about we go into more detail about them here? The following game modes include:
Campaign Mode: The previously-mentioned story mode that has you controlling one of seven created superstars. Whether you’re Bolo Reynolds or Jessica Johnson, your goal is to join the WWE’s newest brand with the help of Advocate extraordinaire Paul Heyman and WWE Legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, with neat comic book panels detailing the story.
Exhibition Mode: If you’ve played any WWE 2K game or any sports game in general, then you know what this mode is for; choosing your favorite WWE Superstar, Legend, or even your own custom character and getting straight into the action. Fight the A.I. or face your friends via online play or offline on the couch (as long as you social distance) in a number of match types.
The various match types that can be played in Exhibition include:
- One-on-One
- Tag Team
- Triple Threat
- Fatal Four-Way
- Steel Cage Match
- Royal Rumble
King of the Battleground Mode: Become the last man or woman standing in this online mode where you challenge seven other players in an over-the-top-rope Battle Royale. Like the Royal Rumble, the goal is to throw your opponent out of the ring. The longer you stay in the ring the bigger your score gets so try to survive as long as you can.
Online Tournament Mode: There will be a variety of limited online tournaments where the winner wins big. Be aware of 2K’s online battleground since new tournaments can happen at any time.
Battleground Challenge Mode: Brawl from the bottom and make your way to the top here, where you take your created superstar to overcome a hundred different challenges. Everyone wants to take your spot so stay alert and kick ass. This mode is where you can make some of that sweet in-game currency so you can unlock more superstars, legends, attires, and cosmetic items for your created characters.
If you’re interested in newer stars getting announced, the 2K Battlegrounds Twitter has been keeping busy with that, confirming the likes of Bayley, Nikki Cross, Aleister Black, Shinsuke Nakamura, and so much more. With a promised roster of 70 and more to come via free DLC, expect your favorite to make it or get added in later.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds is coming out on September 18 for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, and PC.
