The Grapevine (8/12/20): Tapings of Honor

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    • Ring of Honor is set to resume tapings this month, planning something huge and "unlike anything fans have seen in pro wrestling." There are no updates on what this could be. This will be the first tapings the company will do since COVID-19 shut them down in their home state of Maryland. (Source: ROH, Wrestling Observer Live)
We say: While ROH isn't quite grabbing everyone's attention the way they used to, we have to admit that this does picque our curiosity a little. We wonder what this new gimmick would be, especially after everything's already been tried in the absence of crowds during the pandemic.
    • WWE seems to have gotten rid of the female dancers on RAW Underground permanently. The dancers, who were part of the setting last week, were not seen on this week's segments after some criticism toward them. While veterans like Alundra Blayze and Lance Storm disagreed with having female dancers, Liv Morgan tweeted that she'd like to see them back. (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: Yeah, it really wasn't it—having that Attitude Era feel was not worth the criticism, especially when they're trying to push female wrestlers as more than eye candy. At least someone was smart enough to nix the idea quickly, even though it shouldn't have been greenlit in the first place.
    • One of the jobber talents featured on this week's RAW Underground, former MMA fighter Emily Andzulis, was told to hide her martial arts training against Shayna Baszler. She was told to "pretend" to not know what she was doing while Baszler beat her up. (Source: Wrestling Observer Live)
We say: Well... that's the business for you. But maybe there could've been another trainee for Shayna to beat up anyway?

Let us know what you think of today's news in the comments!
