Play Henry: MAMA MIA! WWE 2K Battlegrounds Spotlights the Commentary of Jerry Lawler and Mauro Ranallo

Much like WWE All Stars before it, WWE 2K Battlegrounds has started touting how we will have modern say superstars clashing against the legends of old, whether they’re from the Attitude Era or the Rock 'n’ Wrestling Era. The folks at 2K have decided to hype up that aspect with a new 2K Battlegrounds trailer focusing on a “Clash of Eras” while also putting a spotlight on the game’s commentary team.

Jerry “The King” Lawler is the main focus of this trailer, as he points out how he will do commentary in the game with NXT’s Mauro Ranallo. Unfortunately, the Voice of NXT does not appear at all in the trailer, though we do hear some fun soundbites from the passionate announcer. They also show some clips of the time these two were SmackDown's commentary team for a cup of coffee, so at least they aren't saying the duo are pairing up for the first time ever.

The trailer did show off more of this game’s roster, which is always appreciated. Bayley, Mickie James, AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, and more are shown off in all their chibi, with some mixed results. We’re happy that Bayley and Sasha are in their modern attires but seeing Liv Morgan with pink hair or Daniel Bryan with his long hair and beard is odd for a 2020 WWE game. Then again, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson managed to get a spot in this game so it’s already off the rails.

Another odd aspect is Jerry himself not being a playable character. The trailer focuses on him so much that I was thinking they were going to surprise announce The King for this game but that didn’t happen. Still, this game has a lot of characters and we can always create the ones who aren’t in the game so here’s hoping it’s a ton of fun.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is coming out on September 18 for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch,  Google Stadia, and PC.
