    The Grapevine (7/21/20): Sail Away

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!
    • Kairi Sane is finishing up with WWE. Today's set of TV tapings is her final date with the company, and she will be returning to Japan afterward to live with her husband, whom she married back in February earlier this year. Sane will likely be written off in an injury angle to set up a match between Asuka and whoever will attack Sane for SummerSlam. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: Thank you for your service, Kairi. While your run was not the most ideal ever (Asuka and Io Shirai seem to have had it better) it was still a wonderful time. May we all end up living like you one day.
    • The finish to the Eye for an Eye match at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules was intended to be more graphic than what was shown, but Vince McMahon vetoed the special effects to be used. McMahon, who was very hands-on with the production of the match, did not like the prosthetics used and how they looked. The match was originally rumored to use CGI to show the eyeball outside of the socket. Meanwhile, Rey Mysterio is apparently continuing with WWE after this, but will take time off to sell the match. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: The match was fine all up until that particular spot, and a lot of us expected more than what we got. This explains it, and it's all Vince's fault for booking themselves into this particular horror corner. You get what you get.
    • It's being rumored that Apollo Crews's absence last Sunday had something to do with COVID-19. This is why his match against MVP at the PPV did not push through. While MVP declared himself to be the new United States Champion by forfeit, WWE is not actually recognizing him as champion. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)
We say: We hope Crews is fine, and that it isn't actually COVID-19. But this reinforces the belief that the company needs to shut down.
