    The Grapevine (6/5/20): Undoing Damage

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!
    • WWE reportedly made new offers to some of the wrestlers they released last month. It's not made clear to whom specifically and how many wrestlers were offered new contracts, but it's being said that the new deals are for only a fraction of what they used to make, making the prospect of working elsewhere more promising.

Drake Maverick, who was offered a new contract on this week's episode of NXT, is among a number of wrestlers that appeared on an Impact Wrestling teaser for Slammiversary on July 18. It seems as though Maverick will be staying with WWE after this week's events, while the others are still up in the air—they can either go to Impact or AEW when their 90-day no-compete clause ends on July 15. Released NXT talent, such as Deonna Purrazzo, only have a 30-day no-compete clause. (Source: Wrestling Observer Live, Wrestling Inc)
We say: We suppose it only makes sense that the company could only offer peanuts to the wrestlers they released given the state of business and the world now—the good thing is they have choices, and at least it would be up to the talent which paths they would take moving forward. What's important at the end of the day is that these guys are still able to provide for themselves and their families in these challenging times.

    • Dominik Dijakovic is headed to RAW soon, while Chelsea Green, Io Shirai, and Velveteen Dream are being considered for call-ups as well. The Dijakovic debut is set to happen "sometime in the near future." (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio, Wrestling Inc, PW Unlimited, WrestleTalk)
We say: At this point, what's stopping RAW and SmackDown from looking like extensions of NXT?
    • NXT Champion Adam Cole has yet to sign a new WWE contract. Cole's contract expires at the end of August, and re-signing him may cost the company a lot of money. There's a possibility that he could come over to AEW where his girlfriend Britt Baker works, as he is also close to the Elite. If Cole re-signs with WWE, he will likely be called up to the main roster not long after. (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: That would be an interesting coup for AEW, and we suppose it will all come down on how much Triple H would want to keep him on NXT.
