The Grapevine (5/6/20): A New Apollo

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    • There are reportedly plans for Apollo Crews to turn heel. The five-year WWE veteran has been getting more TV time on RAW as of late thanks to officials pulling for him, and the plans for him to turn heel had been around for a while now, when SmackDown writers wanted him to turn heel on Shorty G. He was recently pulled from the Money in the Bank match with a storyline knee injury. (Source: Wrestlingnews.co)
We say: We're not sure how it's going to work for the soft-spoken Apollo, but anything that helps him develop a personality beyond what's been given him this whole time works for us. Let's hope he gets the rub from MVP and his potential new stable.
    • Australian superstar Brendan Vink is apparently in line for a big push. WWE officials are high on him and consider him the next long-term project, which explains why he and fellow Australian Shane Thorne have been appearing on RAW lately. MVP will be working with them for the foreseeable future to help in this process. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: If anything, we're at least glad to see that they're trying to make new stars, and that they're not trying to rush this process.
    • Roman Reigns had been edited out of the WrestleMania 31 replay on RAW. The replay of Seth Rollins's cash-in during that show's main event did not feature Reigns (who Rollins pinned to win) at all, which may be part of the rumored directive of not mentioning him while he is absent from WWE television. Reigns backed out of WrestleMania earlier this year citing concerns about COVID-19, which may affect him due to his weaker immune system. (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: We get that he literally ruined huge plans on your biggest show, but cut the man some slack—it's not like he did it for fun. This legendary McMahon pettiness is getting out of hand.
