The Grapevine (5/27/20): The Shortest Free Agency

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    • Drew Gulak is officially back with WWE after two weeks. Gulak, whose previous WWE contract expired on May 15 after the company did not accept his counteroffer, officially has a new deal with the company and had been added back to the roster page on WWE.com. He had been moved to the Alumni section, and will resume his run on SmackDown. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: Glad to see that the company holds Gulak in some value. Hope it was someone important who really went to bat for him, like a Daniel Bryan. We hope others who lost their jobs could re-sign with the WWE sooner than later (if it's what they want).
    • Deonna Purrazzo is headed back to Impact Wrestling. A vignette for her aired on this week's episode. She had previously worked for the company from 2014 to 2017.
We say: It's not ideal, but if there's any silver lining to wrestling being allowed to continue despite the risks, it's that people can still make a living.
    • Most of the audience members used in the latest set of WWE tapings are Performance Center trainees. Part of the new setup in their tapings include a Plexiglas barrier, which separates the ring from the crowd, that may be the new default arrangement if or when the company is allowed to tour arenas again. Safety precautions also reportedly included temperature checks and COVID-19 testing in the Performance Center. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: Strange that it took them this whole time to change their entire setup to be safer; not a bad look for the company that's supposed to be #1. Better than nothing, we suppose.
