    The Grapevine (5/20/20): California Dreaming

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    • California is looking to resume wrestling events with no fans. California Governor Gavin Newsom stated that pro sports could run again by the first week of June with no fans or spectators, after initially declaring that sports would not be back until 2021.

On a related note, NJPW is reportedly planning to hold shows at their Los Angeles dojo in the summer. With the new proclamation in California, this looks to be more likely to happen—although getting Japanese talent to the US may become an issue. (Source: Bleacher Report, SoCal Uncensored)
We say: Of course, we could always tell you that this still isn't a good idea, but as long as companies like WWE and Impact are still running empty-arena shows with no real risks coming to their rosters, more and more people are going to follow their lead. It still doesn't make for the optimal wrestling experience, but fans looking for something to watch will be entertained, at the risk of all the people involved.
    • In related news, WWE has five PPV events scheduled for after SummerSlam. One of these events include their next trip to Saudi Arabia, which might be Crown Jewel 2020. This is assuming the worst of the pandemic would be over, allowing them to run the events in the reserved venues. (Source: @Wrestlevotes on Twitter)
We say: Get ready to see those shows come straight from the Performance Center.
    • Ember Moon's achilles injury may be career-ending, she says. She revealed on this week's episode of Backstage that the injury she sustained last September may end her career, but she is still working toward recovering.
We say: While we're not the biggest Ember Moon fans, hearing that totally sucks. Let's hope this is not the end of her relatively young career.
