The Grapevine (5/13/20): The Mom Comes Around

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    • Becky Lynch's pregnancy news was kept tightly under wraps. Asuka did not know upon taping the segment that Lynch would make her announcement and that she would become the new RAW Women's Champion. Many other people backstage did not know as well, with Lynch staying quiet until after the segment was finished. The Money in the Bank ladder matches were taped all the way back in April 15, meaning the direction for the title was likely not finalized at the time. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: Congratulations to Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins! Stranger things have happened, but the segment—including Asuka's wholesome reaction—was a nice way of playing it out.
    • Rey Mysterio has reportedly signed a new WWE contract. Despite the roof spot from Money in the Bank, Mysterio was not being written off TV as he appeared on RAW the following night. (Source: Dave Meltzer)
We say: We just want to say here that it was very clear Corbin did not throw Rey and Aleister all the way off of the roof.
    • Sting is apparently no longer under a WWE contract. Mattel pulled the legend off of a new action figure line after previously confirming him for it, leading to speculation that he was let go. There is also some speculation that he may be headed to AEW after online interactions with Lance Archer and Cody Rhodes. (Source: Pro Wrestling Sheet)
We say: At this point, Sting heading to AEW might be a little overkill for the brand, what with the amount of legends they already have that don't get used all the time.
