The Grapevine (2/17/20): Tour of the Companies

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Here's what we know about Jeff Cobb's status at the moment:

    • Jeff Cobb is still currently a free agent, and is working with AEW for the storyline with Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley. While the company had offered him a deal, he reportedly hasn't taken it, still wanting to work for NJPW as much as possible. His non-AEW bookings are still pushing through. (Source: WON)
We say: That's great, because it means we get to see Kuya Jeff in many places. While we would love to see him succeed in a big stateside stage like AEW, we just wish he gets the setup that's best for him financially, physically, and mentally.

    • John Cena is rumored to be wrestling at this year's WrestleMania. As of now his opponent is reportedly Elias, and that his return to SmackDown next week will kickstart the storyline heading into the big show. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)
We say: It could be a lot better. Let's see if this is actually what the rumor says it is, and judge when we cross that bridge.
    • Meanwhile, Undertaker is still scheduled to work WrestleMania this year as well, this time versus AJ Styles. Styles is still currently recovering from a separated shoulder, but WWE higher-ups feel confident that he'll be ready to go by WrestleMania as he'll be wrestling in the Tuwaiq Mountain Trophy Gauntlet Match at Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia next week. (Source: F4WOnline)
We say: While some of us may groan at the thought of Undertaker still going strong in 2020, this has a decent chance of turning out to be a sleeper hit. It likely won't be Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels levels of long and dramatic, but the idea of Styles bumping and flying around for Taker could still be a good one.
