The Grapevine (8/3/18): No Man Is Truly Ever Invincible

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

We received news of an injury to Aleister Black:

    • Aleister Black was injured at an NXT live event. It was during a match against Tommaso Ciampa at an NXT live event in Las Vegas last Saturday, in which he was crotched. The injury looked "scary" and while he will recover, it seems he will not be able to wrestle at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV. We'll update you with more news as we get it. (Source: WON)
We say: What terrible timing for this to happen. We hope it's truly a work in order to make the title match solely between Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, but the story's too good for it to be just them. Get well soon, Aleister.
    • Rey Mysterio may finally be headed back to WWE after All In. Reports are saying that he's "very close" to returning after the big indie event, with that being one of his last indie appearances. WWE wanted to bring him in much sooner in order to keep him off of All In, but that clearly didn't turn out to be the case. The two sides have been negotiating the return since Mysterio's appearance at the Royal Rumble earlier this year. (Source: WON)
We say: That's great, but it's a shame that he's not like Chris Jericho, who's allowed to work wherever he wants while still technically being under WWE. Still, we can't wait for Rey's return.
    • Daniel Bryan may be in some trouble for not re-signing with WWE yet. According to Bryan Alvarez, Bryan's segment on this week's episode of SmackDown Live implies that some WWE officials are not happy with him not signing a new contract yet. He's already been pulled from some weekend live events to lighten his schedule and make him happy, but he has not committed to a new deal yet. Bryan's current contract expires on September 1, but he's still listed for some live events after that date. (Source: WON)
We say: Sounds like pure speculation to us. While it makes sense for some officials to be petty, this sounds like circumstantial evidence of the fact at best.
    • WWE is trying to sign some Lucha Underground stars. The company's made moves to try and get brothers Fenix and Pentagon Dark, who are making waves in both the indies and Impact Wrestling. However, both still have three years on their Lucha Underground contracts. WWE is also interested in Angelico, who is no longer under contract to LU. (Source: WON)
We say: Looks like Fenix and Angelico will be a great addition to 205 Live (and hopefully not just to Lucha House Party), while Pentagon will be great on NXT.
    • On that note, Impact Wrestling is busy locking down some veteran talent to their roster. Former WWE wrestler Rich Swann already has a long-term contract with the company, as does veteran wrestler Abyss and newcomer Tessa Blanchard. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: This looks good for Impact, as they're finally on the up-and-up. We can't wait to see the progress of their product from here.
    • Jason Jordan and Dean Ambrose will likely be reunited with Chad Gable and Seth Rollins respectively on their return. This seems to be the plan right now with their returns imminent. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)
We say: This sounds like speculation considering Gable and Rollins are still on RAW, but it's good news. The tag team division could definitely use that boost from these teams reuniting.
