The Grapevine (7/20/18): An Uncertain Dragon

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Has Daniel Bryan re-signed with WWE yet?

    • There apparently has been no contract extension offered to Daniel Bryan by the WWE yet. This refutes rumors that Bryan had either rejected or signed one, but it's not clear whether this also refutes the rumors of ongoing negotiations between both parties. His current WWE contract is set to expire this September. (Source: Dave Meltzer)
We say: That's... certainly alarming. You'd think that WWE would do a lot to keep one of their most popular superstars around, even if Bryan has expressed a desire to compete elsewhere.
    • Brock Lesnar will reportedly be appearing on the July 30 episode of RAW, as well as the post-SummerSlam episode in Brooklyn. July 30 is one week after Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley face each other to determine the new #1 contender. Brock is set to return to the UFC later this year, presumably against Daniel Cormier. (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: Well, there you have it. This angle is for real, and either Lesnar is going to retain the title and continue his reign of terror, or this is finally them ushering in a new champ. Let's hope it's the latter.
    • The rumors of Titus O'Neil making a fuss during Hulk Hogan's locker room apology backstage at Extreme Rules in Pittsburgh are false. Everyone on the roster was asked to be present even though they weren't booked for Hogan's apology, and many of them stayed until the end. Some, including Titus, just left early because they weren't booked on the show. The reactions of the African-American members of the roster on Hogan's reinstatement into the WWE Hall of Fame are mixed, with Mark Henry claiming it's around "50-50." (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: Well, it definitely is a touchy subject, but lies are lies. After the last time Titus was suspended, we doubt he would do something that dumb and emotional again.
