    The Grapevine (10/6/17): ¿Mas Lucha?

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Now that Lucha Underground's wrapping up their third season with the ongoing Ultima Lucha Tres, what are its prospects for the future?

    • Lucha Underground may have found a potential source of funding for another season. However, if this source pushes through, the budget will be far lower than what they had in the first three seasons. It's also being reported that many stars still contracted with the promotion want their release. It's also worth noting that Ricochet, who played Prince Puma on the show and did not renew his contract that expired after they finished taping season three, will soon be able to appear on TV 90 days after the end of Ultima Lucha Tres. We say: We don't exactly have our hopes up, but that may be what's behind an audition ad floating around wrestling internet looking for luchadors on the cheap. We're more excited about Ricochet's prospects, honestly, as he'll be going into 2018 with all these opportunities in front of him.
    • WWE doing War Games in the next NXT Takeover was apparently a late decision. Drew McIntyre was supposed to defend the NXT Championship against Adam Cole and SAnitY their NXT Tag Team Championship against reDRagon in what was originally going to be NXT Takeover: Houston, but those plans were obviously changed to include the Authors of Pain and Roderick Strong as of yesterday's NXT tapings for the rest of the month. We say: It's a much, much better idea if only because it breaks the monotonous pattern Takeover shows have been in since around 2015. We need more audibles like this, and sticking nine people in the main event frees up some space to feature more midcarders, something NXT sorely needs to do. We're stoked.
