The Grapevine (8/15/17): The Man Hasn't Been Beaten

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

    • Ric Flair has now undergone surgery. The Nature Boy had been admitted into the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Atlanta over the weekend, after reportedly initially going in for a routine medical checkup. The exact reason for the surgery is still unknown, but some suspect that it has something to do with heart problems caused by prolonged alcohol abuse over his life, as he mentioned in his autobiography To Be The Man. However, his manager also claims that the surgery was not heart-related. His management asked for prayers after first downplaying the situation, and are now saying that while his surgery was a success, his condition is still serious. (Source: F4WOnline, TMZ)
We say: It seems like Flair will be all right, but that was quite the scare. It looks as though they were able to catch the problem before it was able to do something terrible, but we're hoping he comes out stronger.

    • Adam Cole has reportedly signed with WWE. Adam Cole (Baybay) is set to start with NXT soon, as he is reporting to the Performance Center this week. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: The rumors have finally come true. Watch out for him in the audience at Takeover.

    • The main event plans for GFW's Bound For Glory this year will have to be changed after the company stripped Alberto El Patron of the GFW World Heavyweight Championship. El Patron would not be at the next set of TV tapings for GFW, which necessitates changing the plans. The decision to strip him of the title, which Alberto says was his suggestion, comes after the domestic violence controversy between him and fiancée Paige. (Source: F4WOnline)
We say: It's unfortunate, but there's still time to book something in time for the big show. Perhaps they'll fall back on another big tournament happening, but at this point it's one of the few ways to go about it.
