Interesting Mechanics Revealed For MWF Road to Fate

You can't say the Manila Wrestling Federation is scared about trying new things. From its novel but strange "Manila Rules" main-event format to its colorful roster of over-the-top cartoon characters, it's clearly committed to distinguishing itself in the growing local pro wrestling scene.

With its third show, MWF Road to Fate, officially scheduled for September 16, Saturday, at the Makati Square Arena, the scrappy start-up has announced unique mechanics to generate interesting new matchups for its small roster.

That's right—each winning wrestler from its previous show, Republika, will be given the chance by MWF Commissioner Mike Shannon to draw their opponent at random.

Obviously excluded from this lottery are "90s Action Hero" Gigz Stryker and Rex Lawin, who are already locked into a main event rematch at the show.

Ninja Ryujin, who overcame MWF's first female wrestler Ashura in a spirited contest the last time out, is the first beneficiary of the random draw, selecting Frankie Thurteen as his opponent.

Thurteen, of course, is out for redemption after his humiliating loss to Moises Liwanag at Republika. We hear he's been training extra-hard over the last few weeks to bounce back from his defeat, and should provide a decent challenge to MWF's resident Urban Ninja.

Both men sport a 1-1 career win-loss record.

And speaking of Liwanag, he was the second man to draw an opponent, with Aldrin Richards blessed as his next challenge.

Still to draw their opponent are the four other winners from the past show:

    • The colorful masked Mr. Lucha
    • The high-flying Robin Sane
    • The trash-talking "Fabulous" Fabio Makisig
    • The courageous Hanzello Shilva

Conversely, there are just two wrestlers left with their names still in the bag:

    • The enigmatic Ashura
    • The abrasive "Son of a Glitch" Morgan Vaughn

MWF is obviously going to have to hustle to pad the roster with more talent to fill out the card by next month, since it seems they don't have enough announced wrestlers to go around.

In any case, this should be an interesting show full of fresh matchups that's well worth the P250 ticket charge.
