Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.
Is Brock Lesnar headed back to UFC?
- Brock Lesnar is rumored to be planning a return to UFC soon, and he's reportedly not interested in re-signing with WWE after WrestleMania 34. He has been low-key added back to the USADA testing pool, which tests MMA fighters for illegal substances. He was taken out of it after he announced his last UFC retirement. However, UFC vice president of athlete health and performance Jeff Novitzky just denied that Brock reentered the pool.
If he is officially un-retiring now and reentering the pool, the earliest Brock would be able to fight again will be in the middle of December, as his one-year suspension from July 2016 was frozen in February, but reentering the testing pool is merely Brock's plan to decide what he wants to do with his career after his WWE contract is up. We say: This might explain why they're considering moving up Roman Reigns's Universal title win to SummerSlam, especially if Brock doesn't want to show up for WWE for the rest of the year. Knowing UFC, they'll most likely bite, but it's probably about time Brock gave up his MMA dreams, especially if he'll do it part-time.
- Jason Jordan being Kurt Angle's kayfabe illegitimate son was the plan for his controversial secret this whole time. Original rumors speculated that it was building up to an Angle vs. Triple H match, possibly for control of RAW, but this was always the plan. Angle has yet to take any physicals for WWE that would clear him for in-ring action, and he claims that he hasn't taken any yet because he believes he's still in the process of earning back the company's trust. We say: If this is truly the case, then good job to RAW Creative for pulling off quite the narrative heist, from beginning to end. It's a lot better when they plan these things out ahead of time instead of relying on Vince McMahon's last-minute whimsies.
- Rey Mysterio already has a contract offer from GFW. Rey was in Nashville to visit friends on RAW, and he was also in town to meet with GFW officials. The earliest he would be able to appear for any other company would be around January, as he has a 90-day no-compete after his Lucha Underground contract is up following the season three finale. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: While it's still entirely possible for Rey to sign with GFW, we don't believe that this will be the end of it. Wait and see what happens.
