    The Grapevine (6/23/17): MAMMA MIA!

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

No other way to say it, Mauro's back:

    • Mauro Ranallo is returning to the WWE as an NXT commentator. Mauro's contract with WWE wasn't terminated yet despite coming to a mutual agreement in parting ways, and apparently he wanted to continue working for the company, looking for ways to return and insisting that disputes had nothing to do with it. Mauro officially begins wtih NXT on their next round of tapings this week for their July episodes. (Source: Mauro Ranallo)

We say: This is absolutely great news. While we still don't buy that Mauro doesn't have problems with anyone backstage, and that anything about the culture behind the scenes has changed, we're just glad to have someone as awesome as him on commentary back. When you think about it, NXT is a much better fit for him than SmackDown; Mauro began with the Cruiserweight Classic, a program that was pretty much indy, and now he's returning to call the most indy show WWE has. We're so excited for next week's episode.

    • Katsuyori Shibata is nowhere near being ready to compete in the ring. The subdural hematoma he received after the match with Kazuchika Okada is heavily impairing his vision, and the vision impairment was apparently an underlying condition before he got injured, which may be the reason for his stiff striking. (Source: Katsuyori Shibata)

We say: It seems as though Shibata is paying dearly for a lot of his ways in the past. We're still hoping for the best for him, even if it means he no longer gets to return to the ring.

    • Speaking of injured wrestlers, Daniel Bryan is apparently still going to try to wrestle elsewhere after WWE if his doctors clear him. He's looking at NJPW and ROH, and perhaps CMLL, to wrestle, but he won't do it if he knows it's a real risk to his health. There's apparently a chance that WWE might clear him if the concussion lawsuit filed against them by former wrestlers is thrown out. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: We just hope that the doctors do find him okay, but other than that, if there's a possibility he goes down on the Chris Benoit path, it's not worth it. But we'll see, and they know better than we do.
