The Grapevine (5/26/17): All Girl Everything

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

We have some news on the Mae Young Classic and the saga over the #Broken gimmick:

    • WWE wants to have a strong female presence for the Mae Young Classic, which would possibly involve female commentators and referees. While Jim Ross is scheduled to call the action, there are discussions of having Renee Young or Charly Caruso join him at the table, as well as Lita or Beth Phoenix on color commentary. Wrestler Kennadi Brink had been signed to be the first female referee in the company as well, presumably for this show. The Mae Young Classic is scheduled for taping on July 13 and 14, with no announced air date yet. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Seems like a totally good idea. You're doing an all-women tournament, so why not go all in, right?

    • WWE is not actively pursuing the Broken gimmick from Impact Wrestling because they don't want to show that they'd be willing to buy a gimmick or idea from someone else. Impact Wrestling president Ed Nordholm has been claiming that the company wasn't interested in it, but apparently if that were the case, they'd stop telling Matt Hardy to do the mannerisms associated with it. The pursuit of the case is entirely on the Hardys' hands; WWE just doesn't want to be part of the process. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: At first glance it seems quite selfish of them, but at the same time, if people love the Hardys being back anyway, why spend all that effort? It is a matter of time, however, until they book them into a corner without the characters, so they're gonna need the Broken Hardys eventually.

    • Emma is expected to return in mid-June. She suffered an in-ring injury on the RAW live event in Liverpool last May 7, taking a bad bump on her shoulder from Sasha Banks's corner double knee stomp move. (Source: WON)

We say: Get well soon, Emma. The division still needs you.
