#MustWatchMonday: Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado vs. Tony Nese & Drew Gulak

Between the two main shows, the WWE currently boasts a roster of about 102 wrestlers. Among these 102 however, one of the most grossly misused wrestlers is Gran Metalik, formerly known as Mascara Dorada when he worked for CMLL and NJPW. Sadly, 205 Live, which boasts itself as being the most exciting hour on television, somehow finds it unnecessary to prominently feature one of the best high-fliers in the world right now. If you need some proof of that, here's a video to educate you.

Metalik also had a run in NJPW, where he was sadly underutilized as well. Despite that, he was able to have a great match with Kenny Omega (back before Omega became a heavyweight).

Despite his talent, Gran Metalik finds himself languishing in Main Event. The only silver lining to his current run is that he is engaged in a storyline at least. Drew Gulak has taken it upon himself to ground all the high-fliers in the cruiserweight division, as he feels like they are compromising their own safety and the safety of their opponents. While that may sound all well and good, he isn't exactly going about it the right way, as he's basically asking all the other wrestlers to stop doing what they're good at, and what they want to do.

To push this story along, he's recruited like-minded cruiserweights such as Tony Nese and Noam Dar to go up against the fliers. One of these matches came up on Main Event, with Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik going up against Tony Nese and Drew Gulak.

It's a short match, only seven minutes long, and follows the standard WWE tag team match formular for the most part. Dorado acts as face in peril, absorbing the brunt of the offense until he can tag in Gran Metalik. He goes through his impressive arsenal of flying moves, and a dual top rope dive by the two masked wrestlers leads to a Metalik Driver for the win.

It's a simple match on a show not many people watch, but I guess it's better than not getting Metalik at all.

What did you think of the match? Who do you think is the most underutilized wrestler in the WWE right now? Leave a comment!

Brandon Sy is a PhD student in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics currently based in Sydney. Since he wasn't allowed to watch wrestling as a kid, he's been overcompensating ever since. Despite being a huge fan of Japanese wrestling, he still holds a soft spot in his heart for WWE's Kane. He's good for recommending matches from pretty much anywhere, whether it be Japan, Europe, the US or Mexico. He'd be ecstatic if you watched Dragon Gate though.
