    The Grapevine (1/31/17): Who's Next?

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Here's the lowdown on the Universal Championship after Royal Rumble:

    • Goldberg looks like he'll be winning the Universal Championship from Kevin Owens so he can defend it against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. It looks like this will happen at Fastlane in March. Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman is the plan they're going with for the other two, while Owens will be facing Sami Zayn again in house shows. There's no word yet on which big RAW star the Undertaker will be facing, as Dave Meltzer previously hinted. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio, WON)

We say: If that's the case, then on paper, it makes sense as the Universal Championship needs a big name to boost its prestige. In reality, though, we're not sure how that's going to go. Casual and returning fans will love it, but it also still isn't a good look for a company that needs to build new stars. The only good thing is that none of these plans seem to be set in stone yet; Strowman was eliminated by Baron Corbin in the Royal Rumble, and it looked like they were building up Reigns and the Undertaker. We're still on track for Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho, however, that much seems to be true.

    • The Seth Rollins/Triple H angle at NXT Takeover: San Antonio was the only thing planned for Rollins all weekend. It was the key angle to set up their feud and subsequent WrestleMania match. Nothing else of the sort happened at the Royal Rumble event. (Source: F4WOnline)

We say: The way they did it was all sorts of problematic. We wish there was more, and we wish this happened earlier instead of having to wait for WrestleMania season. Rollins's stock definitely went down because of his non-participation in the Rumble match, and his non-appearance in the event after Takeover.
