The Grapevine (10/6/16): It's Too Bad You're Going Home

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Some really shocking speculation for a certain match at No Mercy:

    • Believe it or not, it's possible that Dolph Ziggler can lose his Career vs. Title match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship against the Miz on No Mercy this Sunday. There's word going around that he could take the loss and start transitioning into a road agent role. Ziggler has been getting increasingly busy with his extracurricular pursuits, such as his stand-up comedy and political commentary on Fox. (Source: WrestlingInc)

We say: Although this is a pretty hot rumor, it's best to take it with a grain of salt. You'll have to consider that putting something bigger than the championship on the line in such a match usually means that the champion is obviously losing, and it's likely that they're doing their best to try and throw in some ambiguity in the match's outlook. That, and it's a little too sudden to be talking about retirement with Ziggler, even though he's already 36 years old. But anything can happen, and this is a good way to get people to tune in to the match.

    • It looks like Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg for Survivor Series this year is really happening. Both Jim Ross and Dave Meltzer have been hinting that the deal is pretty much made. Goldberg is the featured superstar on this year's WWE 2K17, so it makes sense that there is some cross-promotion happening right around the time the game is dropping. Goldberg hasn't wrestled since the match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX. We say: This is a great casual draw, but we're not sure this is a match we want to see in 2016. Especially if Brock is just going to throw Goldberg around like he does everyone.

    • Dixie Carter is still unwilling to sell TNA to anyone. This follows a tumultuous past weekend in which the wrestling world was unsure about whether Bound For Glory, TNA's flagship show, and this week's set of tapings would continue. Dixie held a meeting with TNA talents that Billy Corgan, one of the company's prospective buyers, did not attend, and admitted that there had been a power struggle. WWE is rumored to be in talks to purchase the company's tape library, at least, while Corgan wants to buy it and rebrand the franchise. (Source: WrestlingInc)

We say: This was expected. Just give it up, Tita Dixie.
