    The Grapevine (10/24/16): Phenomenal Showstoppers

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the weekend.

What is up with all AJ Styles/Shawn Michaels rumors?

    • As of now, nobody is going to get Shawn Michaels out of retirement. AJ Styles has been fueling the rumors of a match at Royal Rumble between him and the Heartbreak Kid, but none of those things are happening right now. Shawn has made it very clear that nobody is going to make him want to come out of retirement, and the only consolation we'll have is that anything can happen in pro wrestling, including a Goldberg return to the WWE. We say: This might be a much better matchup on paper than Lesnar/Goldberg, but we wouldn't expect too much from the Heartbreak Kid if we were you. The guy has been away from wrestling for around five years. Leave the memories alone. (And we'd do this match at WrestleMania more than anything.)

    • If you're wondering why Asuka is defending the NXT Women's Championship at NXT Takeover: Toronto against someone not on the roster, it's because they're building her up to be a heel. The idea is for her to come across to Mickie James as a heel so that Ember Moon can be built further up as a face when they eventually clash. As reported previously, Mickie is only scheduled for this one NXT match, but things could change down at NXTNA. (Source: WON)

We say: That makes more sense. Asuka has been straddling the tweener line ever since she debuted, and while she's won over fans, it's always been slightly confusing. We're cool with this.
