WWE SmackDown Live Results (8/16/16): Can You Feel the Heat?

Tuesday night in Austin, things heated up some more 5 days away from SummerSlam!

    Ziggler fires up

In another edition of MizTV hosted by Intercontinental Champion The Miz, Dolph Ziggler and the WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose traded barbs, with the topic still on Ziggler's desire and capability to win the title.

And Ziggler may have had enough of the doubts. As he argued that Ambrose will have trouble putting him away, bam, Ziggler hits Dean #OuttaNowhere with a superkick!

As for Miz, his night wasn't over. During the break, he called out his challenger Apollo Crews, who then gladly obliged and nailed him with a spinout powerbomb!

    Family no more?

Later that night, Ambrose took on Erick Rowan, with Bray Wyatt watching on the sidelines in his rocking chair. Ziggler's earlier attack perhaps lit a fire on Ambrose, allowing him to hit the Dirty Deeds on Rowan for the win.

After the match, Wyatt seemed disappointed at Rowan's performance, then left Rowan's sheep mask on the rocking chair and walked out on his disciple.

    Whose time is now?

At the main event, AJ Styles watched from commentary as John Cena faced Alberto del Rio. The two wrestlers have battled each other before, so this match wasn't a piece of cake for either man.

In the end, Cena wiggled out of a Cross Armbreaker and hit the AA to win the match. But afterwards, AJ hit Cena with a Phenomenal Forearm. He then proclaimed that he will beat the face that runs the place at SummerSlam and will make his passion his prison!

AJ then went for a Styles Clash, but Cena recovered and hit another AA, this time on Styles! Cena then #BeatUpAJ all over ringside until he delivered another AA on the announce table!

    Contract or no contract?

After missing out on a contract opportunity last week, Heath Slater returned to Smackdown Live to beg for another shot. Too bad he negotiated at the top of the show, when Commissioner Shane McMahon and GM Daniel Bryan were talking to Randy Orton. (Orton just finished signing his own contract for his match against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.)

Orton then had the idea: Slater would face him later that night for a chance to become Smackdown's newest star!

It was all Orton during that match, so much so that the referee called for the bell and awarded the win to Slater via DQ. Sadly, Slater was beaten down by Orton in and around the ring to send a message to Lesnar!

Backstage, Shane and D-Bry were ready to award his contract (since he technically won) but the dazed Slater thought that the two were RAW's Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley! Uh oh! As a result, Shane and D-Bry took the contract away!

    12-man tag

In a massive 6-on-6 match-up, Jimmy and Jey Usos, the American Alpha, and The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) took on The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch), Viktor and Konnor of The Ascension, and Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango).

It was the AA who picked up the victory for his team, after hitting the Grand Amplitude on English.

    Debut delayed... again

It's week 3 of Eva Marie's debut troubles. This time, the announcer said that Eva Marie was stuck in traffic, and thus would not be able to face Naomi as scheduled.

Meanwhile, in a match that proceeded as planned, Carmella and Becky Lynch scored a victory against Alexa Bliss and Natalya.

After the match, it was announced that Naomi, Becky Lynch, and Carmella will take on Natalya, Alexa Bliss, and Eva Marie at SummerSlam!
