    The Grapevine (8/23/16): Savagery

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Here's all the important news you need to know coming out of SummerSlam:

    • The finish to Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton was apparently a work. Although it looked like an uncomfortable shoot, Dave Meltzer confirms that that was how it was supposed to end, but it seemed like they weren't expecting Lesnar to brutally bust Orton up the hard way using an unprotected elbow.

In a related story, Lesnar and Chris Jericho got into an altercation backstage right after the match. Jericho reportedly went to the gorilla position to ask agent Michael Hayes if that was the intended finish for the match, and Hayes wouldn't answer him. Jericho said "That's bullshit" to that, and Lesnar heard it as he was coming in. There are varying reports on what exactly happened, but Triple H reportedly broke the fight up and told Vince McMahon that Lesnar started it. Jericho apparently got even more infuriated when he saw Orton's condition backstage, but Orton assured him that he knew about everything that happened. (Source: F4WOnline)

We say: What a mess. What a huge mess. We just wonder if this is all worth the decision WWE made last night. More on our PPV review later today.

    • As was seen on RAW tonight, Finn Balor vacated the WWE Universal Championship. He apparently torn his labrum after taking a buckle bomb from Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, and was seen with an arm sling as early as after the match last night. Although he didn't appear with a sling at Good Morning America earlier today, he'll now be checked to see whether he needs surgery. If he needs surgery, he'll be out for four to six months, as Sami Zayn was last year. (Source: WWE)

We say: We wish Balor the best. Nobody deserves an injury, especially one as hard-working as Finn.

    • It seems that Sasha Banks losing the title to Charlotte was the plan all along heading into SummerSlam. Despite rumors swirling around saying that she was either hurt during the match (making the finish an impromptu call) or she violated the Wellness Policy, but all it was is Sasha asking for some time off to heal nagging injuries. She will be out for a month. (Source: Pro Wrestling Sheet)

We say: Not sure how true this is, but this seems to be a better explanation than the other two. If this is true, this is a good call on whoever called it (we have a feeling Sasha might not be too happy at having to sit out for a month), but she'll also have to think about lessening her risks in the ring.
