The Grapevine (8/15/16): Wishing Upon A Golden Star

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the weekend.

We've got some Cruiserweight Classic news for you:

    • Kota Ibushi is likely not signing with the WWE after the Cruiserweight Classic finishes. While the WWE wants to sign him, it seems as though he's not headed there yet. It's likely that he'll be working NXT occasionally after that, as a gesture from WWE indicating that they're still interested in him. As of now, he's scheduled to appear at NXT Takeover: Back to Brooklyn, although he probably won't be wrestling. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: That doesn't automatically mean that Ibushi is losing the finals—in fact, for him to not sign with the WWE after winning would lend the tournament a strange air of prestige, in our opinion. It would elevate the tournament into a true showcase of premiere talents from all over the world, and separating them from the WWE machine expands the overall worldview of the WWE universe. We're cool with it.

    • The target launch date of the Cruiserweight division over on RAW is apparently mid-September. WWE is contacting several talents to help fill in the division, and is apparently commissioning a new Cruiserweight Championship belt, which may or may not be debuted in the live Cruiserweight Classic finale on September 14. For those not getting contracts, some of them will still be used for NXT. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: That's all well and good, but are we even sure RAW has enough space for all of these guys? They better start learning how to write a tighter show, but three hours is still too much to get through.
