The Promdi vs. The Conyo: Ollores-Manalo Announced for PWR Live

As the old saying goes, “opposites attract.” And surely, no bout better represents this idea in such a drastic way than the just-announced grudge match between PWR’s resident promdi Mark D. Manalo and the young, Starbucks-sipping upstart, Yohann “YOLO” Ollores at PWR Live: The ShawDown on July 30.

This match will certainly be a clash between two of the hungriest stars on the roster. But in many ways, this match will be also be a clash of styles and an unavoidable clash of lifestyles.

    Tale of the Tape

    Mark D. Manalo

    Height: 5'10"
    Weight: 205 pounds
    Hometown: San Juan, Batangas
    Championships & accomplishments: None
    Win-loss record: 3-7
    Streak: Two-match losing streak
Finishing moves: Markadong Panalo (Stunner), Manalo Lock II (chickenwing over-the-shoulder crossface)

What else needs to be said about the underdog from Batangas? This is a man whose heart allows him to take extreme risks when necessary, as evidenced in his encounters against such men as The Apocalypse and John Sebastian. Whatever he lacks in polish, he makes up for big time in guts and determination, resulting in some of PWR’s most awe inspiring moments—most memorably his infamous off-the-stage spear to Apocalypse through a table.

His win-loss record may not be the most impressive, but the Fighting Promdi will continue to trek on for a shot at greatness. In many ways, his experience factor is what he holds over many competitors, given his involvement in multiple high-stakes matches throughout his career.

Unfortunately for Manalo, a certain somebody has taken some hateful exception to the promdi.

    Yohann "YOLO" Ollores

    Height: 5'7"
    Weight: 150 pounds
    Hometown: Katips
    Championships & accomplishments: None
    Win-loss record: 0-2
    Streak: Two-match losing streak
Finishing moves: One Night Stand (reverse jumping STO)

From the moment Ollores debuted in PWR for the first time, people reacted with a wave of vitriol his way, all with a common reason: he’s one of those dudes born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Jeer all you want at him sipping his trademark Starbucks venti and relying on his lawyer father for legal protection, but #YOLO has slowly improved into a well-oiled competitor. The King of Conyo put on an impressive showing in the PHX Gauntlet Match at Wrevolution X last May, including an impressive elimination of the DS XL-sized Vintendo with his patented One Night Stand finisher.

You may hate him for coming to the ring on a hoverboard while sipping on high-end coffee as his own personal DJ plays his entrance music, but this man has some raw talent that can will develop over time.

Overall edge: It is a battle of experience versus talent, and despite #YOLO’s undeniable ceiling, you just cannot trump experience—especially with the wars MDM has fought through. If this was a war, you might as well call Manalo a grizzled veteran, with battle scars to show and experience to make use of, things #YOLO has yet to develop. For this, we are giving the edge to the more experienced Mark D. Manalo.

    The History

These two men have never crossed paths in their careers—up until the PHX Gauntlet at Wrevolution X. Manalo managed to eliminate #YOLO during the match, something that infuriated the Silver-Spooned Soldier. Just as Manalo was going to secure a second gauntlet elimination on Joey Bax, #YOLO decided to interfere, screwing the promdi over as revenge, leading to a Bax elimination of the fiery Manalo.

Since then, these two have been throwing barbs with one another on social media, both angry over their respective misfortunes.

PWR management took notice of their growing hate and decided to book the grudge match for the promotion’s Shaw debut.

Overall edge: If there is one thing about a hungry competitor, it’s that he will do literally everything in their power to win—a hunger #YOLO possesses, to his credit. After all, he did take down Vintendo at Wrevolution X. And right now, he wants to avenge his pinfall loss to Manalo, coming from the eyes of a recently graduate from PWR Bootcamp. Expect PWR's resident DPT (Dude Pare Tsong) to make use of that hunger in an attempt to tie their series at 1-1.

    Our Analysis & Predictions

At the end of the day, this match will still come down to who wants the win more.

Manalo desperately wants to improve his win-loss record en route to climbing the contendership rankings, while #YOLO wants to establish his dominance in PWR. What does separate the boys from the men, all things considered, is experience. And whether it's good or bad experiences, MDM has collected tons of both throughout his PWR tenure. He's challenged the most ruthless dogs in the yard, so to speak, and even challenged then-PWR Champion “Classical” Bryan Leo to a title match, nearly scoring the biggest upset in PWR history.

We are also certain that the promdi will not let some conyo come to the ring and make a name for himself at his expense. Thus, expect some much needed redemption for MDM when he secures a victory over the brash newcomer.

Smark Henry prediction: Mark D. Manalo. Ala eh!

With so many new competitors in PWR coming in over the past year, it is good to know that pro wrestling in the country is not just infused with great talent, but also secure as far as the future of the art is concerned. And with the Promdi vs. the Conyo, we will be sure to witness a new PWR calendar year kick off with new opportunities and future championship implications.

Who do you think is winning this class war, Revo-Nation? Mananalo ba si Manalo, or will #YOLO show us the meaning of "You Only Lose Once"? Leave us your thoughts in the comments below, and we'll see you all at the show!
