The Grapevine (7/13/16): Baaaaabyyy, I Like Your Styles

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

If the following dirt is true, then Vince might be coming down with the biggest regret of his life:

    • Is Vince McMahon pretty high on AJ Styles? There's unconfirmed word going around that Vince feels they really should have signed the Phenomenal One 10 years ago, and now he's getting huge buyer's remorse with Roman Reigns. Reigns picked a bad time to fail the Wellness Policy (which we still don't know full details for), as Vince was apparently already starting to move on from him. (Source: Daily Wrestling News)

We say: Let's unpack the two main pieces of information from this particular bit of news. The first one about AJ Styles is simple enough, and might be the reason why he's in a high-profile feud with John Cena.

The second part of the news is Vince's feelings on Roman Reigns, which directly contradict an earlier report stating that Vince is focused on keeping Reigns over in the main event picture. While it's also just as likely that Vince's mind is highly mercurial and whimsical, the turnaround is pretty quick. Take everything with a grain of salt, and see what happens.

    • Triple H is reportedly lowballing some WWE Superstars when it comes to new deals. He's apparently either not giving certain midcard/undercard wrestlers whose contracts are expiring soon enough on the downside guarantee, or not offering new contracts at all. It's said that Triple H is willing to let these wrestlers walk to make space for NXT callups. (Source: Daily Wrestling News)

We say: That makes some sense as the bubble does have to burst sometime soon, and it does line up with rumors of WWE contacting former, better-known Superstars to fill out the rosters after the brand split. While we feel terrible for anyone whose future is uncertain, we also feel like this is better for the wrestling business in the long term, as released WWE guys could quickly fill gaps in other promotions (such as TNA, ROH, and NJPW), make them better, and flourish in the process. We're willing to see a shakeup happen.
