The Grapevine (5/13/16): Pay Me More

Good morning, Henrinites, and welcome to your daily Grapevine! Here is where we round up all the rumors, news and bits of hearsay in the wild world of professional wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

We're shedding some light on Ryback's issues with the WWE:

    • Ryback apparently won't be part of the current batch of spring cleaning releases, as WWE will probably let his contract expire in the summer. The Big Guy apparently wanted new terms on his contract that would see WWE pay for accommodations, road expenses, and guaranteed pay for the full duration of his contract, even if he were to be released. That kind of contract had never been an option in WWE before. (Source: WON)

We say: Honestly? If the choice came down to that or bumping up the pay, then WWE covering all road expenses is a much more reasonable demand than asking for more equal pay across the card. We're not sure we agree with the guaranteed pay clause, but we do agree with contractors shouldn't have to spend their own money whenever they're traveling for work, so long as they spend within reason. It's a noble cause, but it seems like Ryback just didn't handle it so well. Happy trails, Beezy.

    • AJ Styles is taking time off SmackDown and weekend live events to rest from some nagging injuries. WWE officials want him healthy for Extreme Rules on May 22. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: YES. We need more of this. So glad to see WWE's finally starting to realize the value of their bodies. You have a deep roster—do more with them.

    • WWE is still interested in hiring Melissa Santos of Lucha Underground. The only issue in the way of that is her contract status with the show. They're already throwing ideas around for Melissa, who was backstage at WrestleMania 32, one of which is pairing her up with Alberto del Rio as his new personal ring announcer. (Source: WON)

We say: We can really, really get behind this. Melissa Santos isn't a traditionally-trained ring announcer and she most likely won't be able to replace Lilian Garcia or Eden Stiles at their jobs, but she'll be perfect with ADR, whom she shares the LU connection with.

What do you think? Do you agree with Ryback's demands, or do you think he's a little too entitled? Let us know what you think in the comments!
