The Brand Split Is Finally Happening

A few hours ago, Variety reported that SmackDown will be airing live on SyFy every Tuesday (US time) from 8 to 10 PM beginning in July 19. Prior to this announcement, SmackDown had never been aired live on a regular basis, save for a few special episodes. This is a game-changer for two big reasons.

The first is that WWE will now have five hours of regular programming every week, which is WWE's way of addressing an rise in demand from TV networks to air content that happens live. But the second—and more important—reason, at least for us wrestling fans is this: we are getting the brand split that many fans have long been clamoring for!

The Variety report notes that WWE is expected to make both RAW and SmackDown distinct from one another, particularly with each show having its own cast, storylines, and writing teams. As a result, there will be a draft to be held before July 19th, when SmackDown launches as a live program, to determine which wrestlers will be placed in which brands.

Imagine the possibilities of having John Cena as the main man on RAW and Roman Reigns as the main man on SmackDown. What's even more fascinating is when you start separating the rest of the card. Hell, you can start practicing on WWE 2K16's WWE Universe Mode already!

You could have a RAW roster headlined by the likes of Cena, AJ Styles, Ambrose, Chris Jericho, Miz, Sheamus, Enzo and Cass, the New Day, Charlotte, and Sasha Banks; while Smackdown could have Reigns, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, Becky Lynch, the Wyatt Family, and Alberto Del Rio!

We're salivating at the possibilities already! Just don't split up the established tag teams unless you have something special planned for them. We don't want to have a repeat of that awkward phase in Bubba Ray and D-Von's singles careers in 2002.

Oh, and here's the kicker: now that we're getting two separate crews by July 19th, it will be pretty interesting to see which crew ends up visiting Manila by September 9. Here's to hoping we get the best possible roster by then.

What do you think of this development? How would you split the roster across both shows? Have at it in the comments section, Henrinites!
